Charlie’s Surprise Visit That Might Just Bring Our Girl Back

Today, something beautiful happened.
Something small on the outside, but huge for Maya… and for us.
Just hours after Maya was moved out of ICU and into the Lion Ward—still on one-to-one nursing, still fighting her way back—Charlie walked in.
Her Charlie. The boy who’s been by her side through so many chapters of this journey.
Maya wouldn’t have been expecting it.
And maybe that’s why it hit us so hard.
The moment Charlie stepped into the room, something in the air shifted.
Even though Maya’s eyes stayed closed, her breathing changed ever so slightly—like her body recognised a familiar voice, a friend, a reason to keep fighting her way back to us.
Terry and I looked at each other and we just knew: this mattered.
These are the moments you can’t prescribe, can’t plan, can’t put on a chart. These are the moments that touch places medicine can’t always reach.
And we want to say the biggest, warmest thank you to Charlie’s mum, Kate.
Thank you for making the trip today.
Thank you for giving your time, your energy, your heart.
We are certain that Charlie’s visit will help will Maya to wake up, to orient herself, and to come back to us sooner.
As oncology parents, we’ve learned to pull every resource—every person, every ounce of love, every scrap of strength—into Maya’s corner.
If there is even a 1% chance something might help her, we will move mountains to make it happen.
Seeing Charlie beside her today felt like one of those important pieces of the puzzle, the kind that doesn’t show up in hospital paperwork but makes all the difference in the fight.
Maya is still resting deeply.
Still healing.
Still watched over minute-by-minute by her incredible nurse.
But today reminded us that she isn’t doing this alone. Her people—her village—are still here, still showing up, still giving her reasons to return.
And we will keep doing the same.
Whatever it takes.
Whatever helps bring our girl back to us.
