The Shoulder Finally Gave Up!

Shoulder-ing On 💪 Well, today was my turn to be the patient. Wednesday 10.6.2026

I was admitted at 4:30pm for my right shoulder operation after years of wear and tear. Apparently, spending half a year lifting, supporting, and caring for a disabled 12-year old Maya isn’t the best thing for your already fragile shoulder joints. Who knew? 🙄

By 6:45pm, I was heading into theatre for an Arthroscopic Subacromial Nerve Decompression.

And of course… the anaesthetic nurse was Filipino! You can take the Filipino out of the Philippines, but you can’t stop them appearing in every NHS hospital department in Britain. 🇵🇭😂

Before I knew it, I was waking up to the Recovery Nurse called “Maja”, then eventually being wheeled back in my room at 8:25pm wondering:

1. Is the operation over?

2. Why does my arm weigh approximately the same as a small family car?

3. Where’s the morphine when you need it?!

The good news is the operation went well.

The even better news? I’m home. 🏡

After everything Maya has been through, I’ve spent enough time in hospitals to last several lifetimes. No offence to the lovely staff, but I was not planning on extending my stay for the complimentary hospital cuisine. 🍽️😬 But yummy tuna sandwich was on offer!

I’m not allowed to drive so I got picked up.

So now I’m home with one functioning arm, and strict instructions not to do anything stupid.

For now, it’s time to rest, recover, and see if these painkillers are as good as everyone promises.

Wish me luck… and if anyone needs me, I’ll be attempting to put a T-shirt on with one arm and questioning every life choice that led me here. 🫣🤣😇
