Whilst You’re Complaining About Life…Maya Is Fighting for Hers

For the past one week (28th October to 3rd November), Maya’s been hooked up to an IV machine — receiving Fludarabine and Cyclophosphamide chemotherapy alongside 24-hours IV fluids and IV antisickness. Every drop going in and out of her little body is monitored, so every time she needs a pee or poo, she has to catch it in a pot. [Fluid balance: input vs output].

Saturday 1st November, nurse was way too busy in the morning which meant she was two hours behind in giving Maya her anti sickness meds. It hit hard, as Maya ended up being sick all day, she couldn’t eat, didn’t want anything to drink, and felt too weak to even get out of bed. 💔 Maya hated feeling sick and being bedbound all day.

So next time you find yourself frustrated over something small, pause for a moment… and think of Maya — 12 years old, enduring all this with courage and grace. May her strength remind us to be grateful, to stay resilient, and to find joy even in the toughest days. 🌈💪

And when you’re able to, please donate just so I can give Maya those extra treats to cheer her up like bubble tea, Chinese bao buns or fun times at the arcade (when she can). Click Donate (via PayPal) on Maya’s homepage

Thank you very much indeed.

Fludarabine and Cyclophosphamide

💊 When used together (Flu/Cy regimen):

• This combination is powerful for conditioning before CAR-T or stem cell therapy.

• Fludarabine weakens the immune system, and Cyclophosphamide clears space in the bone marrow and enhances the effectiveness of subsequent treatments (like CAR-T cells).

• The pairing increases efficacy while allowing lower doses of each drug than would be used alone.
