Healing Energy Activated

Sunday 1st March: Maya woke up full of excitement because Nanny and Grandad (Terry’s parents) were coming to visit. When you’re in hospital life, visits aren’t just visits — they are events. They are sparks of normality. They are something to count down to.

And they didn’t come empty-handed. They brought Maya one of her own doctor’s kit set (from home) to go with her brand new baby doll Ellie’s doctor’s set she bought from Hamley’s yesterday. The joy on her face said everything!

There’s something deeply beautiful about watching a child who spends so much time surrounded by real doctors, drips, and medicines turn it all into PLAY. Maya carefully checked Ellie’s heartbeat. Listened to her chest. Gave her injections (very gently, of course). In her little world, she was in control. She was the healer. And that? That felt powerful.

Whilst Nanny and Grandad were with her, I was able to step out as our dear friend Amanda came to visit, and we managed a proper catch-up. A real conversation. Eye contact, laughter, and the best part was that she treated me to a beautiful pan-Asian lunch (I suggested Hare & Tortoise Bloomsbury at the Brunswick Centre. It wasn’t just about the food (although it was delicious!). It was about being seen, being held up by a friend, and being reminded that I am still me outside of medical charts and medication times.

And the loveliest thing? No tabs required. No mental note of who paid last time. No keeping count of how many times, when, or whose turn it is next. Just generosity given freely, received gratefully — the quiet, unspoken understanding of real friendship.

As Amanda and I were heading back towards GOSH, we bumped straight into Enzo (Maya’s big bro #3 Katelyn! Maya felt so happy to see them both! Amanda left not long after to make some space in the small cubicle 9, when Maya suggested…

“Nando’s.”

And when Maya decides, we obviously listen, so Maya’s Sunday looked like:

• Nando’s for a proper feast (thank you, steroids, for giving her appetite back).

• Funland arcade

• A quick wander into Waitrose to grab her pot of mango — because normal errands feel magical these days.

• And of course… bubble tea. Always bubble tea. 🧋

It wasn’t extravagant nor dramatic. But it was full.

Full of family, friendship and tiny moments that feel enormous when your world has been shaken.

Days like this remind me that healing doesn’t only come in IV bags and prescriptions. It comes in grandparents who show up with toys. In friends who insist on buying you lunch. In siblings who give Maya a surprise visit.

Healing comes in love. And as we ended the day, tired but grateful, I held onto this truth:

Healing energy multiplies when family stands beside you and genuine friends wrap around you…

To those of you who continuously make it possible for little donations to trickle in — thank you. Truly. It’s because of your kindness that Funland arcade tokens get loaded, bubble teas are sipped with big smiles, and foodie treats outside the hospital become small but powerful escapes. These moments of normality, of joy, of childhood… they are made possible because you care. And that kindness travels further than you will ever know. T-H-A-N-K-❤️-Y-O-U
